Too often we function reactively instead of proactively. Mark and I talk about this our “Finding Our Spiritual Edge” seminar we do with teams across the province. Our exchanges with each become based on

- what you did or didn’t do, or should have done?
- what you said, or didn’t say, or should have said?
- what I believe you meant by what you did or said?

Anyway, essentially comes down to the immature and selfish behaviours kids in a school yard. You’re nice to me so I’ll be nice to you – you’re not nice to me so I’m going to take my toys and go home. Sadly however, that kind of behaviour doesn’t stay in the school yard. It simply becomes more sophisticated and complex – or so we think. We don’t see it when we engage in it, but often those watching can see how childish our behaviour is. A deeply challenging passage of Scripture that address this is Eph 4. I challenge you to look it up right now if you have a bible handy, or find it on line at Biblegateway.com. Read it carefully a few times – look at the commands and urging that Paul gives. After you’ve done that – personalized the passage as a letter that Paul has sent to you directly – the last time through the passage, offer it as a prayer to God of how you will or will not think, behave and be in relationship together.

It’s tough stuff – especially if I look at honestly and consider my own roles in all it.

Anyway, I was just thinking.
