The following is a blog taken form the Presbyterian Church in Canada website. (Link below) There are a lot of great resources out there. I was directed to this one by one of our staff who sometimes writes for it.
Who's Missing?
Hebrews 10:25 - Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -- and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (NIV)
If I recite the books of the Old Testament to you, can you figure out which one I left out?
The list starts out with Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel.
Then there are 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes.
And don't forget Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, and Joel.
Finally, we have Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.
Yes, you are right. Micah is missing. It fits right in between Jonah and Nahum.
Yes, we could probably muddle along without it, but we would miss precious truths.
Our church families could likely muddle along without us, too, but it just wouldn't be the same.
Let's worship together this Sunday.
Prayer: Lord, when we avoid meeting with one another, help us to see why, to deal with it, and to enjoy the family again. For Christ's sake, we pray. Amen.
(Daily devotional for Nov 16th from http://daily.presbycan.ca/index1.html )
I was thinking about “who’s missing” in light of how we serve persons with exceptional needs. It reinforces what we say about inclusion. Everyone has a voice/gift/role to share. We need to continue to advocate inroads for the good of those we serve but also for the good of the communities that may be missing their voice.
