God is using Christian Horizons to touch the lives of children and families all around the world. As we begin to celebrate this thanksgiving season, we praise God for health and restoration.
I wanted to share a story about how He is connecting with and providing for people through the Global Child Sponsorship Program.

Here is Simbi’s story:

Viola Simbi lives in Kajo, Keji, Sudan. Her father passed away in 2001, leaving Viola and her sister Modong, living with their mother. In 2004, the mother re-married and left the children with their grandparents. Unfortunately, the grandparents are incapable of caring for the girls because the grandfather has leprosy and the grandmother is in poor mental health.
In October 2007, Simbi and Modong were brought to St. Bartholomew’s and enrolled in Christian Horizons Global Child Sponsorship program. At this time, Simbi was vulnerable and weak. Having been the victim of physical abuse from her grandparents, she was quiet and seemed withdrawn. Simbi was unhealthy and had parasites in her stomach. Because of an obvious hearing impairment, Simbi was considered disabled and often left out by the other children.
Despite these challenges, Simbi has shown perseverance and has excelled in her school work, especially in English and Math.
At St. Bartholomew’s, Simbi became part of a family. She receives love and care and is a member of a special community with other children who have seen many struggles in their young lives. Since being sponsored by a family in Western Canada, Simbi receives proper nutrition and clothing. Her educational fees and school uniform are provided for and she is now able to attend the government run primary school. With access to proper health care, Simbi has been treated
for gastrointestinal parasites and has recovered from malnutrition. A thorough examination of Simbi’s hearing impairment identified that that Simbi is not deaf. The condition that once characterized her as disabled was found to be Otis Media, an inflammation of the middle ear that is treatable through antibiotics. Simbi has received this treatment and her hearing has been restored to full functioning.
Now free of pain and infection, Simbi is full of energy and charisma. She is a leader among her peers and helps out wherever she can. Simbi is talented at singing and dancing. In spite of her young age she can often be found leading praise and worship during prayer time at St. Bartholemew’s.
