Last week I had the privilege of attending a Christmas party at a group home that has just been remodeled. Some of the residence of this group home have come out of an Ontario institution within the past year. It was great to be hosted by these individuals who were celebrating their first Christmas their own home probably since childhood. Hosting has always been one of my favorite things. I was so happy for these indevidules who were getting the chance to be the host. I know a lot of staff will be working on Christmas day. I know maybe working Christmas day was not your first choice. I wanted to take a few moments to encourage you. The fact that we do what we do enables others to be in their home for Christmas.

It might be worth noting that Christmas is a celebration of someone leaving home. Jesus left his heavenly home to come to us.

Philip. 2:5-7 (NIV)
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness...

Jesus spent 30 or so Christmases (or as he called them birthdays) in a row away from his heavenly home because he was working. He was in the mission field bringing compassion to the human race. Jesus was in our home for Christmas. Jesus is still in our homes for Christmas. He has chosen to dwell in our hearts. No matter where we find ourselves on Christmas day it is good to know he is with us.

May God bless you and keep you as continue to provide a safe and loving home environment for those Christ has called you to serve.

Merry Christmas

Mark Wallace
